Ooh, look at me welcoming you to my creative blog, where I will introduce you to all the fun, creative and crazy things I get up to.

I am a wife and a mother to my 3 children and 2 dogs, so you can imagine how chaotic it can get in our house.

“Ooh, look at me!” is an ironic name because I actually don’t like drawing attention to myself or my family, yet I really like inspiring others to be creative because I know how fulfilling it can be. The name also comes from something silly we used to say years ago and it kind of just stuck with me.

Granny Square Blanket + FREE PATTERN included below

This was another blanket for Korey. saw a granny square on something I was looking at online, on www.allfreecrochet.com, and asked if I could make a blanket that looked like it. Korey chose the yarn type and colour himself from www.loveknitting.com.  Even I love this blanket.  It is so soft and warm.


The pattern is also available to download on www.loveknitting.com and www.lovecrochet.com.


The finished size of the blanket is approx. 47″ (119.3cm) x 47″ (119.3cm).


I worked in UK Treble Crochet/tr [US Double Crochet/dc] as a cluster of three tr into a chain space and I worked continuously round without turning.  I also added a simple edge in UK Double Crochet/dc [US Single Crochet/sc].

Yarn

James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky (shade - Lemon/Yellow 09, Green/Spearmint 11).

4 (each colour) x 100g (3.5oz/191yds/175m) ball.

Weight category: UK Super Chunky [US 6/Super Bulky/Super Chunky].

Tension/gauge: 11 stitches x 18 rows = 4″ (10cm) on size 6mm/UK 4 [US J/10] hook.

The crochet hook I used was a 6mm/UK 4 [US J/10].


I would give the James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky yarn a 4 out of 5 for the following reasons:-

It was a bit tough to work with because the yarn could be a bit fragile and it was hard to see the stitches because of its fluffyness;

There is a reasonable choice of colours available;

The feel of it was really soft and extremely warm, but a bit heavy;

The cost of yarn is a bit expensive, but you do get more on a ball than other Super Chunky yarns - I paid about £3.75 per 100g ball;

Would I use this yarn again? YES, DEFINITELY.

4 x 100g balls James C Brett Flutterby Chunky yarn in Colour A

4 x 100g balls James C Brett Flutterby Chunky yarn in Colour B

6mm/UK size 4 Crochet Hook (or size to achieve tension/gauge you desire)

Yarn/Darning needle

                Special stitch - tr cluster [dc cluster] = 3 tr [dc] into the same stitch.

Intermediate/Advanced level (quicker) Instructions

After rnd 3 (above) you work *tr [dc] cluster, ch 1, tr [dc] cluster* in every corner and a tr [dc] cluster in each space between the clusters of the previous rnd.  The final rnd (41) ch 1, dc [sc] every st, sp and ch sp around, sl st to join.  Fasten off and weave in ends.
